NOVEMBER 4 CAPE TOWN SOUTH AFRICA

We had been so busy before this trip, that I hadn't given it the proper attention it deserved.  We got on a Lufthansa plane on the evening of November 2nd (6:15) and landed in Cape Town, South Africa at 7:50 AM on November 4th.  Basically an 11 hour flight LA to Munich, then a 7 hour lay over aided by a lovely Star Alliance Lounge in Munich.  Followed by another 11 hour flight 7:10 PM and landed eventually in Cape Town.  We were met by a great driver.  He recommended a place for dinner and a few things to see in the Harbor area while we wandered about on our guiderless day.  Our hotel wasn't quite ready to take guest at 8:30 in the morning.  We wandered a bit, then had a coffee at the hotel harbor-side cafe.  Hard to write the bill to a room which we haven't actually checked into yet, but all went well.

A view of racers practicing.  Several teams of varying levels of ability from really great to awful paddled past.

The sea gulls here are of two different varieties.  These are like the Australian kind.  Smallish, skinny legs, and incredibly demanding.  This guy was posing for breakfast items - before screaming into the skies because of a lack of respect.

A swinging bridge which pulled out of the way when tallish ships went by

Nearly swung into place

There were loads of shops and restaurants in the area.  One we bought a few  gifts.   In another we found meat pies for lunch.  We had our pies sitting next to a memorial to the 5 South African Nobel Peace Prize loreates.  Lovely place - some odd musician buskers

The Cape Town Ferris Wheel  - a little like the London's Eye only smaller

A barren peak near the city

In the harbor area some great bands.  This marimba group was playing off and on all day.  They were great

Table Mountain, as seen from our hotel
We decided to go the the Aquarium.  Great penguin display and a fantastic Ragged tooth shark display

African penguins - AKA jackass penguins  (from their sounds)
Had dinner at the Harbor House.  Wonderful Sea food - appetiser, fish main, and a bottle of wine for $70 US.  Bought souvenirs as well.

Needed adapters for South African plugs (and I thought we had them all!)  Beer near the hotel.

Night night
