FIRST PART OF FIRST TOURING DAY IN EGYPT

We drove from the hotel to Memphis. It was the original capital of Egypt. A few relics were found, including a small sphynx, a couple of huge statues of the king. Our guide, Nabil, provided so much information, I'm a bit on overload - but it was a really excellent tour. We went to a tomb with wonderful friezes of daily Egyptian life from the time of the Pharohs. Pictures of people fishing, carrying food stuffs about, and doing farm chores. There were also great carvings of crocodiles biting hippos and visa versa. Apparently, after a huge earthquake a long while ago (prehistorical), the land lifted and the land dried out. Most of the water loving animals (hippos) and most of the agricultural land dried out, except for the water that dumped into the Nile and its delta. The last of the crocodiles are south of the Aswan dam. After Memphis we went to see the step pyramid of Sakarah. A wonderful temple in front of the pyramid had lots of columns and a front of marble that looked modern - clearly not so.
